August 2026 — The Liver & Liver Formulas

This session, hosted by Greg Pepping and led by Darren Huckle, focused on one of TCM's most central organs: the liver. Darren opened with a reframe — rather than seeing the liver as the "problem child" responsible for 100 diseases, he encouraged practitioners to see it as the organ of flow, expression, planning, and engagement with life. He walked through lifestyle factors that harm or help the liver (overstimulation, unmet desires, poor diet, lack of movement and expression), and practical patient recommendations like journaling, heartfelt conversation, dance, and exercise.

The bulk of the session (15:00–45:00) covered a progression of liver formulas organized by pattern, from simple Qi stagnation through blood deficiency, yin deficiency, liver fire, and liver harassing other organ systems — with formula differentiation tips throughout. Darren closed with a reminder that the liver is highly responsive and regenerative, and that giving it consistent attention through lifestyle, emotion, and herbs yields real results.

March 2026 — TCM for ADHD and Complex Emotional Patterns

[Editor's note: Kan's CEO Greg Pepping forgot to turn on the recording at the beginning of this session, so part of the discussion was not recorded. Apologies.😊]

This Office Hours session focuses on Chinese medicine approaches to ADD/ADHD and complex emotional patterns across children and adults. Kan’s Lead Herbalist Darren Huckle, L.Ac., DAOM, begins with a clinical overview of ADD/ADHD subtypes and constitutional framing (starting at ~02:00), including inattentive, hyperactive, and combined presentations. He then walks through core pattern‑based formula strategies—such as heart‑spleen deficiency with (Kan formula names in italics-->) Gather Vitality, liver Qi stagnation and heat with Relaxed Wanderer and Calm Dragon, and liver yang rising with Gastrodia & Uncaria and Quiet Calm (starting at ~15:00).

The session expands into phlegm‑mist and kidney essence deficiency patterns, pediatric and developmental considerations, and sleep support (starting at ~30:00). In the latter half, practitioner Q&A deepens the discussion around trauma, emotional processing, developmental delay, and prioritization in complex, multi‑pattern cases, including the use of tonics, blood‑moving formulas, and long‑term constitutional support (starting at ~42:00). Throughout, theory is grounded in real‑world clinical decision‑making, lifestyle context, and nervous system regulation.

February 2026 — Differentiating Cough Patterns

This Office Hours session focuses on three core clinical themes: understanding Triple Burner (San Jiao) physiology and lower‑burner cold, with practical warming strategies and key formulas such as Replenish the Right and Dynamic Warrior (starting ~08:00); veterinary and human clinical dosing, including milk thistle use and pattern‑based approaches to atopy and chronic skin conditions (starting ~30:00); and differentiating cough patterns, from post‑viral lung dryness to sinus‑driven and phlegm‑heat coughs, with targeted formula selection such as Jade Windscreen, Fragrant Jade, and Pinellia‑based formulas (starting ~50:00). Throughout the session, Kan’s Lead Herbalist Darren Huckle, L.Ac., DAOM, integrates classical theory with real‑world clinical reasoning, responding to live practitioner questions that add nuance, pattern differentiation, and immediately applicable insights.
