Happy Wanderer (Xiao Yao San) is the quintessential formula addressing Liver Qi stagnation and Spleen Qi deficiency. To this day, Xiao Yao San is the most widely used Chinese herbal formula in the world. It is a well-balanced formula that can be used long-term.
In this formula, Bupleurum root invigorates peripheral circulation by moving stagnant Liver Qi, while Dong quai root and White peony root bolster and move Liver Blood. Chinese mint herb clears stasis Heat from the Liver channel. White atractylodes rhizome, Poria and Chinese licorice root and rhizome constitute three of the ingredients found in Four Gentlemen Decoction (Si Jun Zi Tang). It functions to support normal digestion and absorption by draining and drying Damp from the Spleen and Stomach while supporting Spleen and Lung Qi formation. Altogether, the ingredients harmonize the Liver and Spleen to support the smooth flow of Qi and a healthy digestive system.
